A restraining order is an order of protection from the civil court. If someone is in imminent threat of physical pain or injury and IF that person has a certain familiar relationship with someone else, he or she may seek a restraining order. It can be ordered ex parte, or without the other side. In two weeks, a hearing is held to determine if the order should continue. If it continues, it will last for 6 months.
