Termination of parental rights refers to a severing of the legal relationship between a parent and child. This is a matter handled in the probate court. A TPR, as we call it, can be filed for certain reasons, including a parents’ failure to maintain a certain relationship with a child or to show the love, care and concern that a child should be given.
